Review: YSL Glossy Stain

I've been trying to get on the lipstick wagon for years now and finally had a breakthrough recently. I actually felt a little disappointed when I left the house without any lip colour the other day, so I decided to invest in another colour apart from the one Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm (also great) that I own.

The YSL Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stain is a cult favourite and decided to give it a short, as opposed to a lipstick because it's supposedly easy to apply, stays put all day, and I'm lazy. It's a hybrid between a lip gloss and lip stain, so it's supposed to moisturise and shine like a lipgloss while pigmenting our lips like a stain. Doe foot applicator, 6 ml of product.

I chose the colour number 8, Orange de Chine. It's a very vibrant, opaque orange-red with a barely noticeable iridescent glitter. I also tried number 7, which is a lighter coral colour but it came applied like more of a light pink. I went in wanting to get a coral/orange colour because I have a yellow undertone, so I don't suit pinkish colours. For Asians who are more yellow, I think warmer colours work better for lips as a whole. Yes - it looks very orange but I think it looks ok when applied and not too crazy.

This is just one coat. It has a sheer, buildable formula and the best part is - not sticky! Definitely wears more comfortably than traditional lip glosses, which I hate. I quit lip glosses after realising that more of it ended up in my hair than on my lips when it's windy. When it's first applied, it feels very liquidy and sheer but the consistency feels a bit more tacky as it wears on.

It does wear for 4 - 6 hours, depending. Even when the sheen is gone, the colour stays - for up to 8 hours. I'm sure there are dupes out there so I'll keep everyone posted if I manage to find one, as I'm itching to get more of these already!

Overall, I really love this! Only issue is that it's a bit pricey for a lip product (HK$290)
