DIMEMUSE | Juergen Teller
Juergen Teller is a veteran of the fashion industry, and my soul brother when it comes to fashion photography. I first came across and fell in love with his work for Marc Jacobs (and recently Louis Vuitton). My taste in fashion photography has changed quite a bit over the past few years, but there's always a place for Juergen in my heart, especially as it's recently aligned more closely with the industry's preferential raw, hyper-realist, and untouched-up style.
I deviate towards his approach fashion photography because his artistic intentions are never overshadowed by the product the brand is trying to sell. Even when models hold up say, a handbag as you see below, it ironically doesn't feel overtly agenda-pushing.
Similarly, even when he's photographing some of the most high-profile celebrities in the world, they don't appear to be overly-glamorised or superhuman. Much of this I believe comes down to his choice of shooting location, and affinity for sometimes strange or even awkward angles & poses over perfectly framed & manicured shots.
